Green Gram Kachori


    It has been raining non-stop for the past couple of days…It did get depressing when every time we made a plan to go out somewhere. To uplift our mood we needed to eat something piping hot and deep fried. Typical ;)
    So leaving mom and dad to sip a cuppa and watch our dog trying to catch raindrops, I skipped to the kitchen opening cupboards for the ingredients for green gram and aloo kachoris
    This is what you need to make about 15 small green gram kachoris
    Filling
    Green gram-1 cup
    (soaked for half an hour in water and boiled with tumeric and salt)
    Turmeric powder- 1tsp
    Roasted jeera powder- 2tsp
    Ginger Garlic Paste- 4tbsp
    Green chillies- 3 finely chopped
    (depends on how hot u want the dish to be)
    Salt-to taste
  1. Sauté ginger garlic paste in a little oil.
  2. Add green chillies and the dry spices.
  3. Drain the green gram completely of water and add it to the masala.
  4. Stir well and add salt.
  5. Kachori dough
    Maida-1 cup
    Sooji-1/4 cup
    Baking soda-1/4 tsp
    Oil- 5 tbsp
    Ajwain-a pinch
    Water-as required
    Salt -to taste
    Oil for deep frying
  6. Mix maida, sooji, baking soda, ajwain and salt.
  7. Add oil and rub together till u get bread crumb consistency.
  8. Add water and knead to a firm dough
  9. Make little balls and flatten into small rotis
  10. Put some masala in the middle and seal in the filling using water if necessary
  11. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the kachoris over low flame till brown and crisp
  12. serve hot with green chutney and imli ki chutney
